Summary:
Under general supervision of the Laboratory Manager, accomplishes the Laboratory Office's strategic objectives by planning, organizing, and supervising the assigned functions required to operate and maintain departmental activities and services.
Maintains confidentiality of all privileged information.

Essential Duties &
Responsibilities:
Assist with management and oversight of the Clinical Laboratory Department functions and personnel in the absence of the Laboratory Manager.
Maintain and supervise Technical sections of the laboratory.
Which includes instrumentation of VITROS 5600, VITROS 7600, Sysmex XN-1000, Sysmex XN-450, Sysmex CA-660, Clinitek, GEM5000 and UBT.
Assist with developing, updating, and implementing the Department Policies and Procedures, in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and ordinances including The Joint Commission Accreditation, Commission of Laboratory Accreditation (COLA) and Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA).
Assist with maintaining 6-month calibration verification methods.
Assist with all critical value reports on a monthly basis.
Assist with all manual entry values on a daily basis.
Perform routine laboratory analyses at acceptable levels of competency and on a timely manner.
Utilize quality control procedure on a routine basis according to established policy.
Draw blood specimens from patients of all ages as required.
Log in specimen, keep accurate records, prepare and transmit reports clearly and completely.
Perform Drug and Alcohol screening as requested.
Perform tests in reasonable amount of time, with accuracy, following established procedures.
Ensure procedures are accurately performed in the laboratory to obtain data for use in diagnosis, treatment of diseases and for research purposes.
Maintain and monitor the department's monthly quality assurance, safety, environmental, infection control and compliance issues with Arizona State, The Joint Commission, and COLA.
Ensure confidentiality of all employee drug/alcohol screening records and other information.
Attend to Manager duties as assigned during the absence of the Laboratory Manager.
Host and attend regular staff meetings to ensure communication among personnel regarding program-related activities.
Attend Quality Council meetings and other meetings as appropriate.
Maintain professional and technical knowledge by conducting research, attending seminars, educational workshops, classes and conferences.
Participates in Antibiotic Stewardship, Infection Control, Point of Care, Patient Safety and Fire Safety Trainings.
Comply with Personnel Policies and Procedures.
Maintain strict confidentiality at all times.
Performs other duties as required.
Knowledge, Abilities, Skills, and Certifications:
Knowledge of applicable tribal, federal, state, county and local laws, regulations, including The Joint Commission Accreditation and Commission of Laboratory Accreditation.
Knowledge of CDC, ADHS and College of American Pathologists standards, rules statutes and regulations.
Perform unknown samples using American Proficiency Institute.
Knowledge of company policies and procedures.
Knowledge of infectious and metabolic diseases.
Knowledge of BLS, Infection Control, Patient Safety, Emergency Codes and Fire Safety.
Knowledge of business English, proper spelling, grammar, punctuation, and mathematics.
Ability to communicate effectively in the English language both verbally and in writing with staff and the public.
Ability to perform all duties of Medical Technologist, performing complex tasks beyond the skills of a technician.
Ability to perform statistical skills to provide study calculations to endpoint.
Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds and with co-workers at all levels.
Ability to work effectively with individuals and demonstrate leadership and team-building skills with empathy and enthusiasm.
Ability to speak the Navajo language and/or familiarity with the Navajo Way.
Ability to create and present effective speeches and presentations.
Ability to work independently and meet strict timelines.

Ability to interpret applicable federal, state, county, and local laws, regulations, and requirements.

Skill in providing leadership to, supervising, training, and evaluating assigned staff.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly is required to sit; use hands to reach and grasp objects; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.
The employee frequently is required to walk.
The employee occasionally is required to stand; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
Work Environment:
Work is generally performed in an office, clinic or hospital setting with exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations that require following extensive safety precautions and may include the use of protective equipment and exposure to blood borne pathogens.
Exposure to latex products on a routine basis.
Evening and/or weekend work may be required.
Extended hours and irregular shifts may be required.
